About Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering

Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering (abbreviated as Zhongkai University), located in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, is managed by the Guangdong Provincial Government. It is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning with a focus on agriculture and engineering disciplines, and a multi-disciplinary institution that integrates agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, literature, art, and law. The predecessor of Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering was Zhongkai Agricultural and Technical School, which was proposed by modern democratic revolutionary pioneer He Xiangning and others in 1925 to commemorate the patriotic spirit of Liu Zongkai, who cared for agriculture and industry. In March 1927, the school began admitting students and initially offered courses in sericulture and agriculture. He Xiangning served as the principal. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the school moved its location five times. In 1943, the school was renamed Guangdong Provincial Senior Agricultural Vocational School. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was successively renamed Guangdong Zhongkai Senior Agricultural Technical School and Guangdong Zhongkai Agricultural School. In 1984, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the school was upgraded to a university and named Zhongkai Agricultural Technology College. At that time, then Vice President Wang Zhen inscribed the school name. In 2006, with the approval of the State Council's Academic Degrees Office, the school was designated as a unit for increasing the authorization of master's degrees. In 2008, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering. In 2021, it was approved as a unit for doctoral degree awarding project construction.
